4 J un 2 00 9 Fluctuations and response of nonequilibrium states

چکیده
A generalized fluctuation-response relation is found for thermal systems driven out of equilibrium. Its derivation is independent of many details of the dynamics, which is only required to be firstorder. The result gives a correction to the equilibrium fluctuation-dissipation theorem, in terms of the correlation between observable and excess in dynamical activity caused by the perturbation. Previous approaches to this problem are recovered and extended in a unifying scheme.

How the Nonextensivity Parameter Affects Energy Fluctuations
In this article, the effect of the nonextensivity parameter on the energy fluctuations of nonextensive systems is studied in two different versions of the Tsallis statistical mechanics. Once a general expression has been reported for the energy fluctuations in the second version (Tsallis work in 1988), the energy fluctuations of an ideal gas and a harmonic oscillator are studied in the second a...

متن کاملFluctuation-induced pressures in fluids in thermal nonequilibrium steady states.
Correlations in fluids in nonequilibrium steady states are long range. Hence, finite-size effects have important consequences in the nonequilibrium thermodynamics of fluids. One consequence is that nonequilibrium temperature fluctuations induce nonequilibrium Casimir-like pressures proportional to the square of the temperature gradient. Hence, fluctuations cause a breakdown of the concept of lo...
متن کاملA ug 2 00 1 Nonequilibrium effects due to charge fluctuations in intrinsic Josephson systems
Nonequilibrium effects in layered superconductors forming a stack of intrinsic Josephson junctions are investigated. We discuss two basic nonequilibrium effects caused by charge fluctuations on the supercon-ducting layers: a) the shift of the chemical potential of the condensate and b) charge imbalance of quasi-particles, and study their influence on IV-curves and the position of Shapiro steps.
متن کاملImportance sampling and theory of nonequilibrium solvation dynamics in water
We have devised a novel importance sampling method for nonequilibrium processes. Like transition path sampling, the method employs a Monte Carlo procedure to confine or bias the search through trajectory space. In this way, molecular dynamics trajectories consistent with the nonequilibrium dynamics of interest are generated efficiently. Using results of this sampling, we demonstrate that statis...
